Roommates, California is currently in a state of emergency as wildfires are ripping through communities. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes, and are looking for a safe place to stay. Thanks to Airbnb, more families will have that.According to CNN, Airbnb is now offering relief to thousands of people impacted by the fires through its Open Homes Program. The online tool will allow displaced people and relief workers affected by the Kincade and Tick wildfires to find free accommodation until November 7th.Airbnb is asking homeowners in Santa Clarita, Sonoma County, and the surrounding areas to participate in the program by listing their homes on the site for free. Hosts on Airbnb have the option of changing existing listings or creating new ones for the cause. New hosts are also encouraged to list their homes.“Hosts can play an important role in their community’s response and recovery–just by offering their extra space,” according to the Open Homes website. “Since 2012, hosts have opened their doors to people affected by disasters all over the world.”As we previously reported, the Kincade, Tick, and Getty fires have forced many residents to evacuate their homes due to power outages and other dangerous conditions. The Kincade fire alone has reportedly displaced almost 200,000 people in a 50,000 acre area of land.In addition to Airbnb’s generous offer, celebs like LebBron James have contributed to helping the wildfire case! In honor of keeping the taco Tuesday tradition alive, despite being displaced himself, LeBron sent a taco truck to support all the first responders helping to fight the fires.“First of all more than anything, my appreciation and loyalty to the first responders,” LeBron said during a basketball practice. “You know these guys, men and women are unbelievable at what they’re doing and their bravery throughout this time.”We are asking that all of our Roommates continue to pray for all of those impacted by the California wildfires.
